D // The Director
Grandfather, storyteller and the experienced voice at the heart of GrandpaSpy. D answers Beau's direct questions about judgement, trust, intelligence, leadership and life.
Two generations. One conversation. Beau asks the questions people want answered. D brings a lifetime of experience to the other side of the table. Personnel is the restricted file on the relationship at the centre of GrandpaSpy.

Grandfather, storyteller and the experienced voice at the heart of GrandpaSpy. D answers Beau's direct questions about judgement, trust, intelligence, leadership and life.

Beau is the audience's route into the Network. He asks D the obvious, awkward and unexpectedly clever questions, then keeps going when the first answer is not enough.

D's answers come from experience. His career included Cold War Berlin and later service as Legal Director of MI5 and MI6. The history is not the Network's purpose. It is the experience behind the judgement.

There is a life beyond the intelligence file. David and Cary are grandparents, parents and partners in a story much larger than the career people first ask D about. GrandpaSpy keeps that human context visible.

Today D writes espionage fiction and sits opposite Beau for GrandpaSpy. The formats change, but the instinct does not: experience becomes stories, questions and lessons worth passing on. GrandpaSpy is not a museum of D's career. It is what happens when one generation asks and another answers.
